    The Life of Trixie

    2009 – January 2025

"She had been my constant companion from puppy, and many of the places I've written about on this album are places we visited together."

    — Guy Phoenix

Trixie was more than a pet—she was a faithful companion who shared nearly 16 years of adventures with Guy Phoenix. From the beaches of the British Virgin Islands to countless walks through the English countryside, Trixie was there for every journey.

    A Song Born from Grief

When Trixie passed away in January 2025, the loss was profound. At the suggestion of guitar teacher Shane Lamb, Guy began writing as part of the healing process. What emerged was unexpected—within 30 minutes of that first lesson after her passing, the lyrics for "When the Light Goes Out" poured forth, almost as if Trixie herself was guiding the pen.

    Her Rightful Place

Though the album "Places that I Remember" celebrates locations around the world, Trixie earned her place among them. She was present for so many of those memories—a living connection between the places and the person experiencing them.

    Smuggler's Bay

Listen carefully to the very end of "When the Light Goes Out (Reprise – Trixie's Song)" and you'll hear something special: the sound of Trixie herself, running along the beach at Smuggler's Bay in Tortola, British Virgin Islands. A final, joyful memory preserved forever in music.
